Global research network needed if scientists are ever going to understand and prevent cleft palate
Professor Bill Shaw, of The University of Manchester, says the complexity of craniofacial anomalies, like cleft lip and palate, means no one country, let alone institution, has the necessary expertise and resources to find all the answers to these distressing conditions.

New Surgery Helps Cleft-Palate Patients (AP)
AP - Quinn Sliment was born with a cleft palate, a defect that caused his lip to merge into his nostril on the right side of his face. But on Tuesday, the 14-month-old was all smiles at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis, showing just a ghost of a scar.
